  • Team games

Children participate in sports clinics conducted by specialist coaches from the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS), local sporting organisations and by popular sporting identities. These clinics are provided to improve skill levels in major games and to introduce a wide range of sports to students.

The school is a member of the Blackburn and District Primary Schools Sports Association. The students in Grades three to six are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of Interschool competitions such as athletics, cross country, Hoop Time Basketball and Netball. Children in Grades 5 and 6 regularly compete in T-ball, Football, Netball and Basketball. They also compete in annual athletics, soccer, hockey, tennis, cross-country and swimming championships.
Each year there is also an intensive ten-day swimming program for all year levels. At the end of the course many children will have learned to swim, and all will have gained greater confidence in the water.

Mont Albert Primary School boasts excellent facilities for Physical Education and Sport, including a large multi-purpose hall as well as outside basketball and netball courts, junior and senior ovals with cricket pitch and large expanses of playing areas.

During the second half of the school year, Grade 5 students undertake a Bike Education Course, both within school grounds and out on the road. The course teaches riding skills and gives the children an appreciation of road awareness. At the end of the course, each child undergoes an on-road test. On successful completion of this practical test students are awarded a certificate. Bike Ed. has been an important part of the MAPS curriculum for over ten years.

At Preps and Grade 1, our PMP Program helps to promote balance, locomotor skills, hand/eye and foot/eye co-ordination, as well as body space awareness and auditory and visual memory. Grades Prep and 1 participate in the program weekly. Parent aides help supervise the activities, which are varied to allow for individual abilities. Overall, the program encourages co-operation and self-esteem through success at an individual level.
